The Thai telecoms regulator reportedly plans to auction 4G spectrum this November and December, having secured cabinet approval.
Takorn Tanthasith, secretary general for the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), said at a press conference today that the auction of 1800 MHz spectrum will begin on 11 November and the auction of 900 MHz frequencies on 15 December, local media reported.
Two licences in each band will be up for grabs, Tanthasith was cited saying.
The reserve price for the 1800 MHz spectrum will reportedly be Bt16.57bn (US$508.7m), while it will be Bt16.085bn (US$493.8m) for the 900 MHz airwaves.
Thailand was set to award spectrum in the 1800MHz band last August, but this was put off after the current military council came to power in May.
Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakul was recently cited saying the 4G auction would kick off this year, preferably in August.
Last week, reports emerged stating that local telco Jasmine International is talking to three foreign firms about creating a joint venture to bid in the auction. They reportedly include a mobile phone company in Japan and South Korea, with a stake of 25-40% in the venture on offer.
