Belgian cellco Base has received takeover interest – as expected – from European cableco Liberty Global and telecoms investor Altice, reports De Telegraaf.
A spokesperson for Liberty declined comment on M&A speculation, while spokespeople for Altice and seller KPN could not immediately be reached for comment.
Both potential suitors would be aiming for fixed/mobile convergence, since they own respective local cablecos Telenet and Numericable.
Bankers also expect Xavier Niel, the owner of French challenger Free, and private equity groups to join the fray.
JP Morgan is advising KPN, which has set a reported asking price of 1bn.
