South African mobile operator Vodacom is in the early stages of discussing possible tower sharing with rivals Airtel and Millicom, according to a local publication IT Web.
Spokespeople for the companies were not immediately available for comment.
Vodacom overlaps both with Airtel and Millicom in the DRC and Tanzania. The other companies are not however present in its other markets: South Africa, Mozambique and Lesotho.
Tower deals are becoming increasingly common in Africa, with operators agreeing between themselves to share infrastructure, and independent towercos such as Eaton, IHS and Helios vying to buy up infrastructure.
African leader MTN has sold off towers, while Airtel is looking to divest the bulk of its towers on the continent.
