Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has named Dileepa Wijesundera as its new CEO.
Wijesundera has replaced Lalith De Silva who has resigned as a result of the company’s “corporate structural development and by mutual agreement”, the incumbent said in a statement.
De Silva has agreed to assist with the handover.
A trained engineer, Wijesundera has previously served as head of Emirates Sky Cargo, Canada, as senior vice president of Qatar Airways and as chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
SLT chairman PG Kumarasinghe Sirisena, appointed in January, noted that De Silva has been instrumental in strengthening the company’s strategic direction. His initiatives include the National Broadband Network, which is now being laid throughout the country.
SLT is the country’s largest telco and provides fixed-line and internet services. It also operates under the Mobitel brand in the mobile sector, where its rivals are Axiata’s Dialog, Etisalat, Hutchison and Airtel.
