Telekom Malaysia plans to launch a multicurrency Islamic bond programme worth up to US$750m.
Wholly-owned subsidiary Tulip Maple received approval today from the Securities Commission Malaysia to establish the sukuk programme, the telco said in a local stock exchange filing.
Telekom Malaysia noted that the programme will give it greater flexibility to manage its fund-raising requirements, providing an alternative source to bank borrowings.
Proceeds will be used for capital expenditure, business operating requirements or other Shariah-compliant purposes, the telco said.
