Telecom Argentina, the local unit of Italian telco Telecom Italia, has appointed Elisabetta Ripa as its new CEO, following the resignation of Oscar Cicchetti.
At the end of February, the telco announced that Cicchetti would be moving back to Italy to take on “new relevant projects”, despite having been in the role for only six months.
Ripa, who joined the Italian incumbent in 1990, has held a number of senior positions in strategy, marketing and finance.
In her new role, she will be responsible for accelerating 4G network deployment across the country over the next three years.
Telecom Italia is in the process of exiting Telecom Argentina. It sold a small indirect stake in the operator to US investment firm Fintech last October, and will gradually divest the rest of its shares to the investor over the next few years.
Fintech originally agreed to acquire Telecom Italia’s indirect 22.7% stake in Telecom Argentina for US$960m in November 2013, but the process ran into regulatory difficulty.
