Digicel Guyana has promoted CFO Kevin Kelly to the role of chief executive.
Kelly, who has served as finance chief since August 2008, replaces Gregory Dean, who will become a regional CEO within the Digicel group, responsible for Guyana, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.
Kelly, who has more than seven years’ experience in the telecoms and technology sector, said he is pleased to take on the role as Digicel “evolves to a total communications provider”.
Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T), controlled by US-based Atlantic Tele-Network, has a monopoly over fixed-line services in Guyana, the sole English-speaking country in South America. Its mobile unit Cellink competes with Digicel Guyana, which is part of the Digicel group owned by Irish businessman Denis O’Brien.
Based in Jamaica and incorporated in Bermuda, Digicel operates in 33 markets internationally – 26 in the Caribbean and Central America and six in Asia-Pacific.
