Alan Whelan has left his role as CEO of Bahraini incumbent Batelco having only taken on the role in April 2014.
Batelco has announced that Ihab Hinnawi, CEO at the group’s Jordanian operator Umniah, is now its acting CEO.
Whelan took the helm at Batelco in April 2014, bringing with him a CV that included spells at BT, AT&T as well as Cable & Wireless.
He filled a vacancy which had been open since May 2013 when Mohamed bin Isa Al Khalifa left after just over 18 months.
No reason was given for Whelan’s departure. In a statement Batelco’s chair, Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, thanked Whelan for his efforts and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Batelco said Hinnawi has over 20 years of extensive managerial experience, 11 of which have been at Umniah. He joined the Jordanian division in 2004 when it was formed and was made CEO in 2009.
