Daniel Mead, Verizon Wireless president, CEO and executive VP, is leaving his role to focus solely on the sale of Verizon’s wireline operations to rural broadband provider Frontier Communications.
Once the recently-announced US$10.54bn sale of fixed assets in California, Florida and Texas closes, expected by the end of Q1 2016, Mead will retire.
While he oversees the Frontier transaction Mead will take the title of executive VP and president of strategic initiatives, the telco said in a securities filing.
Mead’s responsibilities at Verizon Wireless have been assumed by John Stratton, Verizon’s former executive VP and president of global enterprise and consumer wireline, who has taken on the newly-created role of executive VP and president of operations. Stratton will be responsible for the operations of the telco’s wireless and wireline businesses.
Both Mead and Stratton will continue to report to Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam.
