Turkcell’s CEO for the past eight years, Sureyya Ciliv, has decided to step down at the end of the month.
Commenting on Ciliv’s departure, Turkcell chairman Ahmet Akca said the mobile operator has achieved numerous milestones since he took the helm in January 2007.
“Mr Ciliv has led the transformation of the GSM-only company to a leading communication company both in Turkey and in the region,” he said.
Chief technology officer Ilker Kuruoz will serve as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is found.
The Istanbul-based mobile operator noted that the appointment process for a new head has begun.
Turkcell is the largest of Turkey’s three mobile players, followed by the local unit of Vodafone and Turk Telekom’s Avea.
