Kumarasingha, who replaces Nimal Welgama, is the company’s eight chairman since it was partly privatised in 1996.
Prior to joining SLT, Kumarasingha was CEO of the State Timber Corporation and he is currently a board director at the Land Reclamation & Development Company in Sri Lanka.
SLT is the country’s largest telecoms company and provides fixed-line and internet services. It also operates under the Mobitel brand in the mobile sector where its rivals are Axiata’s Dialog, Etisalat, Hutchison and Airtel.
