Incumbent Saudi Telecom (STC) has appointed Khaled Biyari as its new CEO, effective as of 27 April.
Currently senior vice president for technology and operations at STC, Biyari will replace Abdulaziz Alsugair, who has served as acting CEO since March 2013 on top of his chairman responsibilities.
Alsugair stepped in following the departure of the previous chief executive, Khaled al-Ghoneim, who left after less than a year in the role citing “special circumstances”.
Partly state-owned STC is Saudi Arabia’s largest telco. Its rivals in the mobile sector are Etisalat’s Mobily and Zain. In September last year, Virgin Mobile Middle East and Africa started offering MVNO services in the country.
