French Canadian operator Cogeco Cable has ended its four-month search for a new CFO after appointing Patrice Ouimet to the position.
Ouimet began in the role today, succeeding 19-year company veteran Pierre Gagne who exited the company in July citing personal reasons.
It is Ouimet’s first job in telecoms. He was previously CFO at alternative energy group Enerkem and has held various roles at investment banks Lazard and CIBC World Markets.
Ouimet has “demonstrated a superior ability to provide strategic insight as a forward-focused leader”, Cogeco said in a statement.
His appointment comes as the Montreal-based cableco is considering expanding by launching an MVNO. In September, CEO Louis Audet told a public hearing arranged by regulator the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) that it would seriously look at the option if wholesale access to the larger operators’ networks could be guaranteed.
