Eric Hageman, CFO of KPN when America Movil tried to swallow the Dutch incumbent last year, will return to the world of telecoms in a new role as chief financial officer of Telecity Group.
He will start at the data centre operator at the beginning of September.
Hageman left KPN in September 2013 in the middle of a takeover battle with America Movil, which had made a cash offer to KPN shareholders at the time. AMX abandoned the acquisition plans a month later due to resistance from the public, the KPN board, and a foundation charged with protecting KPN that successfully exercised a poison pill to block the takeover attempt.
AMX reduced the stake it had built in the company subsequently.
At the time of Hageman’s resignation KPN had dismissed any speculation that his departure should be seen in the context of the takeover attempt. The decision to leave was the result of personal circumstances, KPN said in a statement in September 2013.
Hageman became KPN CFO only 18 months earlier, initially on an interim basis, following the departure of predecessor Carla Smits-Nusteling. Prior to that he was CEO of KPN Belgium.
Michael Tobin, CEO of Telecity, commented on the appointment: “[Hageman’s] senior-level experience will be crucial as we continue to grow the business and deliver on our focus of value creation for shareholders.”
Hageman replaces David Crowther, who had been Telecity CFO on an interim basis.
Telecity, listed on the London Stock Exchange, has a market cap of £1.54bn.
