Four companies have submitted bids to take part in Hungary’s upcoming 4G spectrum auction – the three existing mobile network operators and a potential new market entrant.
Deutsche Telekom-controlled Magyar Telekom and the local units of Sweden’s Telenor and the UK’s Vodafone applied by the 16 June deadline, as did potential new entrant Digi, communications regulator NMHH said in a statement.
A unit of RCS&RDS, Romania’s largest cable and satellite TV provider and a big telecoms player in Southeast Europe, Digi provides cable-based triple play, satellite TV and wireless internet services.
NMHH now has a fortnight to check tender documents meet formal requirements. Successful bidders will be registered and a thorough assessment of their applications will follow.
The regulator called for bids for the auction of spectrum in five frequency bands, saying it hoped to raise at least Ft104bn (US$467.92m) from the process. Licences for the spectrum – in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,600 MHz and 26 GHz bands – will be valid until 2034.
