The Austrian antitrust regulator, the BWB, has approved the syndicate agreement between Telekom Austria shareholders America Movil and state holding OeIAG.
A spokesperson for the agency confirmed that the agreement does not raise anti-competitive concerns as such. However, the agency wants to monitor the sector going forward to ensure efficient functioning of the market.
In remarks reported in Austrian media the agency described the telecoms industry as “highly concentrated”.
The two key shareholders had agreed to pool their shares in late April, which triggered a subsequent mandatory offer by America Movil for all outstanding shares. The tender period for the €7.15 per share offer ends on 10 July.
