Cable giant Liberty Global has named O2 Slovakia’s head, Ramiro Lafarga Brollo, as the new managing director of its Polish unit.
Brollo starts his new role on 1 July, taking on all day-to-day operating responsibilities at UPC Poland, the cableco said. He replaces Simon Boyd, who retired in late 2013.
Brollo has been CEO of O2 Slovakia, in which Petr Kellner’s PPF acquired a controlling stake this January, since 2011. He previously held several other senior positions within the Telefonica group, including commercial director for Telefonica Chile and Telefonica Sao Paulo in Brazil as well as commercial and customer director for Movistar in Chile.
LGI managing director for Central and Eastern Europe, Betzalel Kenigsztein, said Brollo’s proven experience in the fixed and mobile markets is a perfect fit for UPC Poland, the group’s largest operation in the CEE region.
“I am confident that Ramiro will lead UPC Poland into the next phase, exploring new opportunities and benefiting from LGI’s economies of scale.”
PPF closed its acquisition of a majority stake in O2 Slovakia and O2 Czech Republic in January. O2 Slovakia named Martin Vleck as its new CEO in late May.
