Costa Rican telecoms regulator Sutel has been given the green light to launch a mobile spectrum auction later this year, according to local reports.
Bidding rules for the auction were postponed early last month and the auction has since come under scrutiny due to a potential conflict of interest from at least one of the bidders for the licence which is up for grabs. Digitel has been named as being the party in question, as it is said to have both helped Sutel draw up the auction details in the past and is a potential bidder. This now seems to have been resolved, paving the way for the auction of spectrum in the 850MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands to go ahead.
The bidding rules for the upcoming auction are expected to be released in the coming few days. Digicel, America Movil, Telefonica, Milicom and Cable & Wirless are all set to partake in the auction.
