Telefonica Slovakia (O2) has named Martin Vlcek as its new CEO, effective 1 July.
Vlcek replaces Ramiro Lafarga Brollo, who will remain with Spain’s Telefonica group, O2 said in a statement.
Vlcek is currently an investment manager with O2’s controlling shareholder PPF and head of finance at Telefonica Czech Republic, which also operates under the O2 brand name. PPF, controlled by Czech businessman Petr Kellner, completed its acquisition of a controlling stake in the Czech and Slovak operators in January. The Netherlands-based investment firm intends to launch a tender offer to buy out minority shareholders in June, offering Kc295.15 (US$14.68) per share.
Vlcek has previously worked as an external consultant for PPF and PMU CZ and as an investment manager for Penta Investments.
O2 is Slovakia’s third largest mobile operator after the local unit of France’s Orange Group and Deutsche Telekom-controlled Slovak Telekom. O2 claims to have about 1.6 million customers, equal to an approximate 24% market share.
Both Telefonica Slovakia and Telefonica Czech Republic are set to change their names to O2 in June.
