The former CEO of Deutsche Telekom, Rene Obermann, is said to be in talks about taking up a role at private equity firm General Atlantic.
German publication Manager Magazin reported that discussions have already reached an advanced stage.
The publication cited unnamed industry sources for the information. A subsequent newswire report also carried the news, referring to a person familiar with the negotiations.
Obermann would replace Klaus Esser, who is set to leave GA later this year.
Esser was CEO of Mannesman at the time when the German mobile operator was acquired by Vodafone in the year 2000 for €190bn.
Rene Obermann left Telekom at the end of last year to become chief executive of Dutch cableco Ziggo, which agreed to be acquired by Liberty Global shortly after. Obermann has said he would leave the cableco once the deal has closed. Regulatory approval for the takeover is still pending.
