French Canadian conglomerate Quebecor has named Manon Brouillette as the new head of its quad-play operator Videotron.
Brouillette has been COO and president of Videotron for the past year. She is taking over as CEO from Robert Depatie, who has stepped down as head of Videotron and Quebecor citing health reasons.
Pierre Dion was named as the new CEO of Quebecor at the end of April. His appointment garnered a lukewarm reaction from analysts, who pointed to his lack of telecoms experience.
Brouillette has been at Videotron for 10 years and was part of the team which managed the operator’s evolution into a mobile network operator in Canada’s francophone regions.
Commenting on the appointment, Dion described Brouillette as “results-driven” and added: “Manon fosters a vibrant spirit of innovation in the organisation.”
Earlier this year, Videotron firmed up its commitment to its fledgling regional mobile operations by acquiring 700 MHz spectrum in Canada’s digital dividend auction.
It bought more airwaves than expected, giving it almost a nationwide footprint. However, local experts have told TelecomFinance not to expect the Montreal-based operator to roll out a nationwide network any time soon.
