French incumbent Orange is reportedly set to appoint a senior civil servant from the French treasury to become its new CFO, replacing Gervais Pellissier who would be moved to a different role within the group.
Ramon Fernandez, who is director general of the treasury department, will take on the role as CEO Stephane Richard looks to shake-up the telco’s management, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
The appointment could happen within weeks, but will have to wait until the French finance ministry has found a suitable successor for Fernandez, the report said.
Meanwhile Pellissier could keep his role as deputy CEO under the plan, and head up Orange’s international operations.
Orange did not reply to a request for comment before the press deadline.
The move would come after Richard’s contract as CEO at Orange was extended for another four years last month, paving the way for his re-election as CEO at the company’s AGM on 27 May.
His future at Orange was cast into doubt in June last year when it was revealed that he was under formal investigation for his alleged role in a fraud case at the French finance ministry. The state has a 27% stake in the operator.
