New York-based Cablevision Systems has promoted Brian Sweeney, its senior executive vice president of strategy, to company president, taking over the role from CEO James Dolan, who had held it since the late nineties.
Meanwhile 24-year company veteran Kristin Dolan, who was president of the cableco’s Optimum unit, has been made COO. She succeeds Tom Rutledge who left Cablevision abruptly in 2011 and is now CEO of Charter Communications.
In her new role she will manage all of Cablevision’s cable operations. Sweeney will remain in charge of strategy, and will also look after its local media units.
Sweeney is James Dolan’s brother-in-law by virtue of being married to his sister, Deborah Dolan-Sweeney, who sits on the company’s board. Meanwhile Kristin Dolan is married to the CEO.
Cablevision is headquartered on Long Island and its operations are focused in and around New York. It has a market capitalisation of US$4.66bn and has around 2.8 million subscribers.
