Vodafone Romania has named Ravinder Takkar, head of the UK-based group’s partner markets business, as its incoming CEO.
Takkar will start his new role on 1 May, replacing Giovanni Chiarelli, the CTO who has served as interim CEO since former head Inaki Berroeta left to take up the top job at Vodafone Hutchison Australia earlier this year.
Takkar first joined the UK-based group in 1994 and in his current role, which he has held since January 2012, has worked to help Vodafone expand via partnerships with network operators in countries where it does not have an equity stake.
Under Takkar’s leadership, new partners have included the Zain Group in the Middle East, Plus in Poland, Vodafone Brasil, FarEasTone in Taiwan and Vinaphone in Vietnam.
Takkar’s previous roles within the Vodafone group include enterprise business unit and strategy director at Vodafone India, group product development manager at Vodafone Live, CTO at Vizzavi and other operating roles in the Spanish and Portuguese businesses. He has also been a board member of Vodafone India and Indus Towers, a JV with Airtel and Idea.
Before starting with Vodafone, Takkar was a management consultant at DMR Group.
Bucharest-based Vodafone Romania claimed to have 8.32 million customers as of 31 December 2013, 59.9% of whom were prepaid.
