Dennis Woodside is leaving his position as CEO of Motorola Mobility to take up the COO post at cloud storage company Dropbox.
The move follows Google’s decision to sell Motorola to Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo for US$2.91bn at the end of January.
In a blog post on Motorola’s website, Woodside said that Jonathan Rosenberg, a long-time Google executive, will become the handset maker’s COO from 1 April to ensure a smooth transition to Lenovo.
Google’s chief business officer Nikesh Arora will continue to oversee Motorola’s strategy and remain as executive chairman of its operating board until the Lenovo deal closes.
Google paid US$12.5bn for Motorola in late 2011 and has subsequently stripped the asset of most of its valuable patent portfolio, leaving its hardware business.
