Indian telco Reliance Communications (RCom) has hired former Bharti Group executive Vinod Sawhny as its group CEO.
Sawhny will oversee RCom’s three department heads: Gurdeep Singh, CEO of wireless, DTH and consumer broadband; enterprise CEO Punit Garg; and Bill Barney, CEO of backbone unit Reliance Globalcom.
Sawhny spent 10 years at Bharti where he was CEO of Airtel Mobility, joint president of Airtel Enterprises and COO of Bharti retail.
RCom said Sawhny has “over 30 years of well-rounded experience in establishing and building diverse businesses, including telecommunications”.
In tandem with the appointment, RCom, controlled by billionaire Anil Ambani, has set up a new management board. Sawhny will sit alongside Singh, Garg and Barney, as well as Suresh Rangachar, president IT and Services; CFO Manikantan Iyer; and Amit Das, head of HR.
