Telecoms group VimpelCom has announced that its chief technology officer Philip Tohme has been appointed CEO of its Algerian subsidiary Djezzy
Vincenzo Nesci, the current CEO, will remain as Djezzy’s executive chairman.
Meanwhile, VimpelCom said its head of the CIS business unit, Dmitry Kromskiy, is to quit to pursue other career opportunities. He will be replaced on an interim basis by Mikhail Gerchuk, group chief commercial and strategy officer.
Jeff McGhie, group general counsel and chief corporate affairs officer, will also leave VimpelCom at the end of May 2014 to take up a senior position in the voluntary sector.
Russia-focused VimpelCom is still embroiled in a dispute with the Algerian government over Djezzy. The group said in 2012 that it would sell its stake in the operator to Algeria, subject to an agreement on price. But negotiations have stalled and no deal has been reached so far.
