The former chairman of US telecoms regulator the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has joined private equity firm Carlyle Group as a managing director and partner.
Julius Genachowski, who left the FCC in May last year, will focus on TMT investments in the US
Pete Clare, co-head of Carlyle’s US buyout team, commented: “Deep industry specialisation is core to our investment strategy and Julius brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to these sectors.”
In addition to his four-year term as head of the FCC, Genachowski has also served as a special adviser to investment firm General Atlantic and helped build US internet company IAC/InterActiveCorp.
Following his departure from the FCC, President Obama nominated industry veteran Tom Wheeler to succeed him. Wheeler’s appointed was ratified by the senate in the autumn and he began in the role in early November.
