Ronny Verhelst, CEO of German cableco Tele Columbus, wants to acquire smaller rival Primacom.
“We are in talks with Primacom and we have already submitted an offer,” Verhelst confirmed to German weekly Focus.
Just weeks ago reports had emerged that Primacom was looking to buy parts of Tele Columbus rather than the other way round. Primacom MD Wolf Waschkuhn said in October that its company had made bids for Tele Columbus’ Berlin assets and for Deutsche Telekabel, another player in the field.
Tele Columbus has been up for sale repeatedly in the past years but had failed to find a buyer. This year Kabel Deutschland tried to acquire the cableco but abandoned the plan following resistance from the German antitrust regulator, the FCO. In April TelecomFinance reported that Rothschild was advising the company on a new sales attempt.
