Norwegian telecoms giant Telenor is searching for a new CEO for its Indian unit after Yogesh Malik resigned citing personal reasons.
Sigve Brekke, who heads Telenor’s operations in Asia, is filling the role at Uninor until a permanent successor can be found.
He said: “Yogesh has made important contributions towards the development of Uninor for the last three years. I thank Yogesh for his contribution to the company and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
Malik, who joined Uninor as COO in 2011, had only been appointed to the role in May, when he replaced Brekke.
His departure comes as Telenor targets operational cash flow break-even before the end of the year in India, after ending its joint venture with local real estate group Unitech following a bitter dispute.
The group has licences to operate in six circles in India, giving it the ability to reach half of the country’s population. To date it has more than 32 million customers.
