Telefonica Chile, the country’s largest operator, has issued a UF3m (US$139.5m) bond maturing in October 2023.
The issue has a fixed annual interest rate of 3.7%, and spread of 147 basis points over Central Bank rates, a spokesperson for the Chilean mobile operator’s Spanish parent group said.
UF, which stands for ‘Unidad de Fomento’, is a unit of account used specifically in Chile. Its value remains constant on a daily basis even during low inflation.
Commenting on the bond issue, the spokesperson said: “These results, equivalent to Libor plus 211 basis points, are a reflection of the excellent credit quality of the company.”
BBVA, Corredores de Bolsa and Santander worked on the transaction, which was 1.35 times oversubscribed.
Telefonica Chile is the South American nation’s largest operator in both the fixed and mobile markets, operating under the Movistar brand.
